Commemorative Scrolls

During the Second World War, nearly one million dedicated Canadians served their country on the home front. Each war worker brought with them the same indominable spirit to help the Allied war effort and bring an end to one of the world’s greatest military conflicts. Most of these amazing Canadians have since passed away, but the Bomb Girls Legacy Foundation seeks to remember each and every person who served. With this in mind, we have launched a Commemorative Scroll Program to honour a loved one who worked during the war in Canada. If you would like to more formally remember your family member who served, it would be our honour to create a beautiful colour commemorative scroll. Endorsed by the Bomb Girls Legacy Foundation, the scroll will become a treasured heirloom for generations to come.

Ordering a scroll is easy. Simply fill out the application below, choose the scroll tier you’d like to purchase, and leave the rest to us. Monies raised help with our endeavours including erecting historic plaques, building a war worker museum, establishing school curriculums across Canada, and erecting a national monument in Ottawa.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. All war workers who served on the home front are eligible. While Bomb Girls risked their lives handling high explosives for the Allied forces, every war worker's contribution is worthy of commemoration.
Yes. Each scroll needs either a unique email address or shipping address. This costs us time and resources. Remember, all monies raised help with our other projects. We are a non-profit organization.
Generally, unless we have an unprecedented number of requests, your scroll should be prepared, printed, and shipped within one week of your order. You should receive an email notification when your order has shipped. Obviously, if you purchase only a digital scroll—Bronze or Silver Tier—you should receive the digital download more quickly.

Please note, however, that when Canada mobilized its workforce at the outbreak of war, seemingly countless manufacturing companies sprang up to help. If we are unfamiliar with the wartime factory at which your loved one worked, it will take some additional time to prepare the scroll.
If you are not completely satisfied with your scroll, for any reason, please contact us, and we will work diligently to remedy the issue. We are striving to ensure these scrolls become a treasured keepsake for your family.
If you order our most prestigious Diamond tier, we will conduct a search based on your loved one's information in our recreated employee database which currently includes over 8,000 war workers. Please note, however, this tier is only available, currently, for war workers who worked at the GECO munitions factory located in Scarborough, Ontario.

When the war ended in Canada, the Canadian government ordered wartime company documentation destroyed. What remains today, if anything, is found in private collections. The GECO plant, being a private enterprise, did not destroy their records. The recreated database has been constructed from names found in the 84 issues of the employee newspaper, GECO Fusilier.

If, after your name is run through the recreated database, there are records found, we will request additional funds—$40.00 CDN—so that a member of the Bomb Girls Legacy Foundation can prepare an attractive summary of what was found, including photographs, work-related details, specific details of the article, as well as a copy of the article, if available.

If other names are found who share a similar surname, these will be mentioned, in case another loved one worked at the factory, of which the inquirer was not aware. It wasn't uncommon for multiple family members to join the war effort together and work at the same plant. However, please note, that an additional $40.00 CDN will be required to write up their individual summaries.
